winter solstice blessings

From a Biochemistry professor/Episcopal priest

A central theme and image for this period of the year is light. We light candles in our homes for light and to symbolize the increasing light and love of our celebrations. We enjoy the light of the candles yet we also are bringers of light to others in all of our relationships and interactions. It is a good thing to lighten another's path at this time and at all times of the year. Let us share the light and warmth and love we feel with others whether friends, family, colleagues, or the stranger in haste.
~ thanks Dr. Jen Taylor

holiday class schedule

It is hard to believe that classes for the 2008 year have come to a close. In recognition of the season there will be no classes Wednesday 12/24 and 12/31. Enjoy this time of joyous celebration with friends and family ~ be safe and have fun out there.
Classes for 2009 will resume Monday January 5th. See you next year!

winter class location

As snow continues to fall and winter descends early upon our central Texas town ~ the Pay-What-You-Wish donation classes will be returning indoors at the Burly House in south Austin.

moving to the Dojo

The class this evening is postponed while we move into our new space. Beginning next Wednesday, join us for Pay-What-You-Wish classes at our new location in central Austin - the Dojo.

Conveniently located in a friendly and eclectic Clarksville Austin neighborhood, the Dojo has served as a movement space for dance, yoga, and martial arts classes for many years. A dense bamboo lined path leads to this serene cedar structure surrounded by open air screened windows with lush vegetation and vaulted ceilings. The west facing deck also fosters informal community gatherings before and after classes.

See you soon!

reduced private classes

Now with graduate school looming in the near future, time is running out! If you haven't yet enjoyed the benefits of an individual yoga session, the first class is being offered at a reduced price of only $45 through the end of this year.

A private individual session allows for the greatest success with direct one-on-one attention. Each class includes plenty of time for questions as well as a detailed written review of the instructions to be practiced later. The sessions are tailored according to the individuals evolving needs, meets either weekly/ monthly/seasonly and averages in length 60 - 90 minutes. Whether interested in developing an at home practice or maintaining a personal practice that is informed, contact me for details and to schedule a time that is convenient for us both. See you soon!

fall classes beginning in August

The always popular Donation Classes will resume Wednesday evenings beginning August 6th at the Burly House from 6:30 - 8:30. The suggested donation is $10 although no one will be turned away for insufficient funds. The first hour consists of breath and body work to prepare for the next half hour of meditation followed by a question and answer period. Space is limited therefore students are encouraged to reserve their placement (call or email) and arrive early to minimize the traffic rush.

Private students are also encouraged to get in contact soon to continue our practice together.

hiatus follow up

My heartfelt apologies for not writing with an update sooner, but this brief hiatus has allowed me the opportunity to reflect and grow in many ways. Not only have I returned from another challenging yet rewarding silent 10 day meditation, I have also been investigating graduate programs to finish my degree.

So far the strongest contender is the Transpersonal Ecopsychology program at Naropa University in Boulder, Colorado. It is the only accredited Buddhist University in the United States with an emphasis on contemplative education. The admission process is almost complete and includes the option of studying both there and here. I look forward to teaching in Austin through at least April of this coming year.

Thank you to all of those who have emailed and called during this time of transformation and reintegration - i couldn't have done it with out all your love and support. I will keep posting on yoga events throughout the area as well as the admission process and residential decision as they evolve.

jump on spring

All classes and workshops will resume in the Spring with the coming of warmer weather. Check back for new Yoga in the Park locations and times throughout South and Central Austin. Stay warm out there!

independent study approved

Wow, i feel as if i have graduated from college all over again! Since October of 2005, i have been studying various methods for communicating the science of yoga and applying it to the instruction and training of future yoga teachers. After several years of teaching and many hours of research, i have been certified by the Yoga Alliance registry as a RYT 500 hour teacher. It is my intention to continue exploring new and integrative approaches to sharing this beautiful science of self and spiritual discovery. I humbly thank you all for your support, generosity and kindness over the years and across the world. namaste'

schedule update

I regret to inform that due to time and financial constraints, the donation Pay-What-You-Wish classes are postponed and will resume in the coming Spring. Students are encouraged to continue their practice with the Thursday workshops, private sessions, or personal at home practice.

The Thursday workshops are an excellent opportunity for students to deepen their understanding of the yoga traditions and to develop a foundation from which to build their own personal practice at home. There will also be reduced rate private sessions available on a sliding fee scale. Please contact me for more information and to arrange a time to meet.

2008 beginner yoga workshops

Thursday evenings at the Burly House will serve host to beginner workshops starting January 17th with Yoga for Beginners.

This 10 hour course introduces students to the Hatha Yoga practice including the primary physical postures, breathing exercises, and philosophy. Each week the class will learn new practices as well as review the principles taught from the previous week to further integrate the technique and methodology. Each class is adapted for personalized attention to individual needs in a nurturing non-competitive atmosphere. Completion of this program will enable students to practice safely and confidently whether in a large class room or privately at home. For more information, cost and the details.

Stay tuned for the Ashtanga beginner workshop March 6th and Sivananda beginner workshop April 24th.
